Crosby Scholars… Paving the Path to College
Sixth-grade, Crosby Scholar
students learn to think of college
as not just a dream, but a
reality. Middle school Crosby
students attend workshops and
learn how to stand up against
bullying, to set goals, to work
with others and are exposed
to a variety of other social and
academic subjects. The program
sponsors a local college tour and
works to set up career interest
activities so that students are
exposed to a variety of career
options and are able to look
to their future with the hope
of college. By high school, the
Crosby program takes on a more
focused approach with Advisor
meetings which are designed to help each student choose the best
college match and become the most competitive college applicant
he or she can be. Student profiles are created which assist students
with scholarship applications and by the senior year, a 1:1 mentor
is assigned to walk each student through the college application
process.
In its first year, 1,734 Rowan-Salisbury students signed up to
be Crosby Scholars and learned more about the opportunities for
education that await the after high school. 1,202 of those students
attended an Academy session and 990 completed at least 2 hours of

community service. Altogether,
Crosby students reported a grand
total of over 5500 volunteer
hours, with a number of students
actually logging over 50 hours
of service! The Crosby Scholars
program is pleased that its
program encourages Crosby
students to give back to the
community!
In 2014-15, the program
will accept applications from all
Rowan-Salisbury middle and high
school students in grades 6-10,
and include a junior class which is
made up of those Crosby Scholars
who successfully completed the
2013-14 program as sophomores.
