The Board of Education approved Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody’s recommendation to appoint the new model of leadership. Meredith Williams is the New Principal at North Rowan High. Ms. Williams was previously an Assistant Principal at North Rowan Middle. Before coming to RSS, Ms. Williams held the positions of Dean of Students, Biology Teacher, and Lead Teacher for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Ms. Williams holds a B.A. Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill where she was a Morehead Scholar and she has a Masters Degree from Wake Forest University in High School Biology Education. Carl Snider is the new principal at North Rowan Middle. Mr. Snider was previously an Assistant Principal at Erwin Middle, a position he has held since 2007. He served as a middle school teacher for seven years before coming to RSS and is a member of the district’s "Grow Your Own Leaders” program. Mr. Snider received his B.S. Degree from East Carolina University and his Masters in Education Leadership from High Point University. Alexis Cowan moved into the new position of Community Principal for North Rowan Middle and North Rowan High schools bringing together a new concept in leadership – the “Collaborative North Rowan Administrative Team.” Mr. Cowan was previously the principal at North Rowan Middle. Mr. Cowan has been with RSS since 2006 serving as assistant principal and principal. Mr. Cowan received his B.S. Degree from Winston-Salem University and his Masters of School Administration Degree from UNC-Charlotte. This new model of leadership grew from feedback received through a survey and town hall meeting held to receive community input to be sure that the right leadership would be put in place for North Rowan. Help Greasy Protect Against FOG DON’T POUR FATS, OILS, GREASE OR WAX (FOG) IN DRAINS! Grease can build up in pipes and running hot water down the drain does not dissolve the grease completely. If a clog forms in a sewer pipe, raw sewage can back up into your house or outside, negatively affecting the environment. These steps can prevent this: 1. Pour unused cooking grease into a can, and wipe out the remaining scraps with a paper towel. 2. Collect and store the can in your refrigerator or freezer and dispose of these in the trash when full. 3. Pour liquid frying oil into containers that can be capped, thrown in the garbage or taken to a recycling center. OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER ONLY FLUSH TOILET PAPER — No wipes down the pipes! MEDICATIONS are not safe to flush either, so drop these off at authorized recycling drop-box locations such as Salisbury Police Deptartment. MERCURY or devices containing mercury such as old thermometers, thermostats, switches, and lights containing mercury vapor should be handled with extreme care and disposed of properly. For more information on Household Mercury (Its Appropriate Use and Disposal Practices) as well as our FOG Program visit our website at www.salisburync.gov/SRU. 4 • November/December 2016• Parent Teacher News
