Ike Emerson Appointed to US Naval Academy Congratulations to East Rowan High School senior James I. (Ike) Emerson for his appointment to the United States Naval Academy. This appointment provides a worldclass 4-year degree and commission as an officer and leader in the United States Navy or Marine Corps. Additionally, Ike received a ‘Letter of Commendation’ from the National Merit Scholarship Program. Board Cork news Power of 10-Math Millbridge Elementary students collaborate in teams and have fun working on the Power of 10-Math assignments pushed through Schoology; solving a mystery during Literacy Block; and working together to graphout their thoughts. Early College Receives State Recognition for 100% Graduation Rate Congratulations to the Rowan County Early College for being recently honored by State Superintendent Dr. June Atkinson at the state ‘Graduation Achievement Awards Recognition’ ceremony. Rowan County Early College was among 11 districts and 60 schools across the state to earn North Carolina’s Highest Graduation Rates for 20142015. The Early College received the ‘100% Graduation Club’ designation that is given by the state to schools achieving a 100% four-year cohort graduation rate. This also includes schools that have been open for at least four years and have 10 or more students in the cohort. Rowan-Salisbury Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody, Early College Principal David Miller, and Executive Director of Secondary Education Eisa Cox represented the district at the celebration luncheon held in Durham, NC. They were presented and received a plaque at the luncheon. Helping Students Become College & Career Ready In addition to the MacBook Air laptop, all high school students are provided with additional learning software to help them become career and college ready. Our district’s number one goal is literacy. We are excited that all students will have access to Achieve3000, an interactive software program tailored to each student’s reading level to elevate their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. High school students will all have access to Discovery Education TechBooks These interactive digital textbooks provide up-to-date, current and relevant resources for students and teachers. TechBooks assist student learning in a variety of ways including audio, video, images, and digital investigations and real-world application of math and science. High School students will once again be provided Method Test Prep. This program is designed to strengthen learning rigor and provide resources for students to be successful on the ACT. Full ACT test prep and practice materials are available through this program at no cost to the students and can be used both in school and out of school. We are so excited to provide our students and teachers with great resources to extend their learning and help them to become College and Career Ready!
