INSPIRATION AWARDS
Inspiring the Extraordinary for Student Success
Rowan-Salisbury employees
are nominated to receive
an “Inspiration Award” for
demonstrating and inspiring
the extraordinary for student
success. The following staff
members were recently
recognized at a Board of
Education meeting during
'Celebrations.'
Iesha Patterson is a first
grade teacher and chair of the
Teacher-Led Design Team at
North Rowan Elementary School.
As stated in her nomination,
she has a unique way of seeing
each child as an individual and
teaching students how to make
wise choices. She inspires her
students to make their own
decisions, to speak politely, and
respect not only their elders but their friends as well. She is an amazing role
model to her students.
Lorie Jackson, as the Math Coach at Granite Quarry Elementary School,
works to coach teachers and staff in best practices in math instruction. Her
nomination further applauded Lorie for her work with students to encourage
them in their mathematical thinking and learning. Lorie has led the charge
with MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) implementation at GQES,
showing that it really is about total school improvement for all students and
best practices in teaching. Her
enthusiasm and passion for
learning is contagious.
Jim Hetrick is our RSS
Warehouse Maintenance
Technician for the district.
Jim’s nomination described
him as always being friendly
to everyone. Not only does he
always have a smile and deliver
excellent customer service, but
he makes a point to come to
see students and employees in
the school. Jim does a great job
of building relationships and it
shows that he enjoys and takes
pride in his job.
Rosemary Wood is a School
Counselor and Tory Curran
is a School Social Worker -
both are educational leaders
at Overton Elementary School. The nomination describes both educators
to be extraordinary in their invaluable work in helping teachers identify
and understand trauma and resilience. They both have taken the lead to
develop a student-centered practice that embraces parent outreach, teacher
education, and student support. This year they coordinated our first Family
Outreach day, which resulted in over 20 positive home visits in a single
day. They are continuing this work with teachers and families through our
Outreach PLC, which meets twice monthly.
