“Give Five, Read Five”... Summer Reading Program
As part of the NC DPI initiative “Give Five, Read Five,” the Rowan-Salisbury Schools will
again be banding together to help give new and like-new books to our students to facilitate
summer reading. Last year, our district collected over 25,000 books for our students. We are
reading to far surpass that number this year.
Research shows that students drop up to two grade levels during the summer break without
intervention strategies. As our system moves forward with our Strategic Plan, literacy and
reading skills are a key focus.
