The New West Rowan Elementary School First Day For Students January 7, 2019 marked the official first day that students from the former Woodleaf and Cleveland Elementary Schools joined together to attend their new West Rowan Elementary School. Students were greeted by a beautiful sunrise, smiles from teachers and staff, and music provided by West Rowan High drummers. Many thanks to the Woodleaf Civitans and to the Cleveland Lions Club for providing each student and staff member with a commemorative t-shirt. The entire WRES student body started the day by all gathering together in the auditorium to meet new friends, old friends and to have an official group photo with all the students and staff. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony January 4, 2019 was the official ‘Ribbon Cutting Ceremony’ for the new West Rowan Elementary School. Those attending were invited to tour the school building and classrooms meeting staff, teachers and community friends. This was followed by refreshments served in the new multi-purpose room – which is known as the “cafagymatorium.” - a combined school cafeteria, gymnasium, and auditorium that can be divided into separate rooms or combined to make one large meeting area. The school dedication and ribbon cutting were held in this large location and was led by Rowan Chamber of Commerce President Elaine Spalding. facility, students were able to visit their new classrooms greeted by the familiar – with their names on desks and cubbies, with the same teachers and same friends – only now they are making new friends too! West Rowan Elementary School was created through the consolidation of Woodleaf Elementary and Cleveland Elementary schools. For the previous year and a half, principal Kris Wolfe has traveled between the two schools, serving as principal to both, to begin the process of merging the two school together. So in many ways, it was old friends coming together to learn and grow in a brand new facility.
