The New West Rowan Elementary School
First Day For Students
January 7, 2019 marked the official
first day that students from the
former Woodleaf and Cleveland
Elementary Schools joined together
to attend their new West Rowan
Elementary School. Students were
greeted by a beautiful sunrise,
smiles from teachers and staff, and
music provided by West Rowan
High drummers. Many thanks to
the Woodleaf Civitans and to the
Cleveland Lions Club for providing each student and staff member with a
commemorative t-shirt.
The entire WRES student body started the day by all gathering together in
the auditorium to meet new friends, old friends and to have an official group
photo with all the students and staff.
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
January 4, 2019 was the official ‘Ribbon Cutting Ceremony’ for the new West
Rowan Elementary School. Those attending were invited to tour the school
building and classrooms meeting staff, teachers and community friends. This
was followed by refreshments served in the new multi-purpose room – which
is known as the “cafagymatorium.” - a combined school cafeteria, gymnasium,
and auditorium that can be divided into separate rooms or combined to make
one large meeting area. The school dedication and ribbon cutting were held
in this large location and was led by Rowan Chamber of Commerce President
Elaine Spalding.
facility, students were able to visit their new classrooms greeted by the
familiar – with their names on desks and cubbies, with the same teachers and
same friends – only now
they are making new
friends too!
West Rowan
Elementary School
was created through
the consolidation of
Woodleaf Elementary
and Cleveland
Elementary schools. For
the previous year and a
half, principal Kris Wolfe
has traveled between
the two schools, serving
as principal to both,
to begin the process
of merging the two school
together. So in many ways, it
was old friends coming together
to learn and grow in a brand
new facility.
It is an exciting time to be
