Message from Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody Well, it has been a challenging start to this New Year in respects to the inclement weather that we have been experiencing. One of the most difficult decisions that a Superintendent can make is whether to delay, close or keep schools open on a normal schedule during uncertain weather conditions. Please know that these decisions are made on the side of caution and you can be assured that the safety of our students and staff is our top priority. We are in the depths of writing the document that will become our district’s new Strategic Plan. This plan will determine the direction of our school system. This process takes a great deal of time in pulling together and analyzing data; gathering input from all stakeholders through online surveys and meetings - all focused at doing what is the best for our students to be successful in school and in life. It is an exciting time and I am extremely encouraged by all those that are eager to be a part of this process. Stay tuned as this new plan unfolds in the near future… One of the most enjoyable parts of my working as Superintendent is the opportunity to reach out to our school families and our community. Our Board of Education and community supporters have had the opportunity to get to know our schools better through visits to individual schools. These visits allow Rowan-Salisbury Schools earn Apple Distringuished Program for 2013-2015 The Rowan-Salisbury School System has earned renewed status as an Apple Distinguished Program for the 2013-2015 school years. The award was presented at the January Board of Education meeting. The designation is reserved for programs that demonstrate a consistent vision for enhancing and extending teaching and learning through thoughtful and innovative implementations of technology. In 2009, North Rowan High School received its initial recognition from Apple followed by four years of school system programs being identified by the company for exemplary learning environments and centers of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. Rowan-Salisbury is recognized for 21st century learning through many initiatives and unique technology programs. This year marks the first Apple Distinguished Program renewal award for a two-year span from 2013-2015. 2 • March/April
