East Rowan High Students Receive Honors
Congratulations to the seven (7) ERHS band and chorus students who were
selected for the Honors Series at Carnegie Hall in NYC. The students will
travel to Carnegie Hall in February to perform with the National Youth Choir
and Symphony. One student will also have the chance to travel to Sydney,
Australia next summer for the international choral youth ensemble.
SRHS Competition Cheerleaders –
State Champions
Congratulations to the SRHS Raider Competition Cheerleaders for winning the
title of the State NCHSAA Champions – for the 2nd consecutive year! Kresen
Whitmarsh is the team coach. The team was recognized at the December
Board meeting.

**Anna Hester was also selected to participate in the international choir in
Sydney, Australia in the summer of 2019.
Dean Orbison is the ERHS Chorus Teacher and Emily McNeil is the ERHS Band
Teacher. They were recognized at the December Board meeting.
Catherine Hampton Is The New Principal At
North Rowan Middle School
Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody announced at
the Board of Education's December meeting
that Catherine Hampton will be the new
principal for North Rowan Middle School.
Mrs. Hampton came to Rowan-Salisbury
Schools 10 years ago where she served as an
Assistant Principal at Jesse Carson High School.
She was Principal at Granite Quarry Elementary
School – a position she has held since 2014.
She began her educational career as a teacher
at Millingport Elementary School in Albemarle,
NC.
Mrs. Hampton received her Bachelor’s Degree
from East Carolina University in Elementary
Education and her Master’s Degree in School Administration from UNC-
Greensboro. She is currently working on her Doctor of Education degree from
UNC-Greensboro.

Mrs. Hampton is very excited about serving the North Rowan Middle
community, and she looks forward to meeting all of you soon. Her first day at
NRMS was December 19, 2018.
April Spry, Assistant Principal at Granite Quarry Elementary School, will
hold the position of Interim Principal at GQES. Most of the Granite families
know that she is completely dedicated to the school and has built a strong
reputation of excellence with the community. We are so happy to welcome her
into this new role.
