First Annual Knox Middle STEMposium - Excellence In Action First Annual Knox Middle STEMposium shows Excellence In Action! Often times it is hard to express in words when something GREAT has happened for our students, such as the First Annual Knox STEMposium definitely an example of EXCELLENCE. The hard work, collaboration, and commitment from the Knox leadership team created this purposeful and engaging evening for students, parents and community members, an example of EXCELLENCE. Numerous activities showcased the higherlevel learning opportunities that are provided everyday to students. The feedback received from parents was very exciting. Many did not have these type of learning experiences when they were in school and they were eager to share how excited they are that their children are being given opportunities “to learn skills, to think, and to get along with each other.” Parents had fun learning about the iPads. One grandmother commented; “I have never touched one of these - “This was a great night. My grandson showed me how to check the weather on the iPad. It was cool.” All parents want their kids to be successful and to have a chance at a better future. Many parents caught a glimpse of the endless possibilities for that future. Changing School Cultures, Changing Student Fortunes Four representatives from the Rowan County Early College High School presented at the National Early College Conference held in Raleigh. Early College Lead Teacher Julie Stolze, College Liaison Carolyn Bayer, Retired Founding Principal Cindy Misenheimer, and current Principal David Miller lead the session on best practices for translating the NC New Schools Design Principles into the culture of an early college high school.
