Corriher-Lipe Middle School Students Featured at Waterworks Visual Art Center
“Jessica Flores Wins Top Award!”
Thirty-two art students from Corriher-Lipe Middle School
travelled to the Waterworks Visual Art Center in October to
attend a reception in their honor and view an exhibit of their
art created for the recent “La Fiesta de Rowan.” The students
created posters based on the theme “Music is Our Passion”
after exploring the influence of Cuban and African rhythms
on music in America starting in the 1930’s. With their
choice of music as an inspiration, students created a visual
interpretation of what they heard.
Fifty-one posters were submitted and judged by
members of the Human Relations Council and the Latino
Coalition. Corriher-Lipe students were pleased to hear that
their art won first place at all three grade levels:
Grade 6- Mary Taylor
Grade 7- Sarah Loder
Grade 8- Jessica Flores
Awards were presented at the reception and “The
People’s Choice Award” was announced. Congratulations to
Jessica Flores for winning the amazing award!!
While at Waterworks, students toured the current
exhibits with their art teacher, Mrs. Lynn Haynes.
