Message from Superintendent Dr. Lynn Moody Where there may be no silver bullets to academic success, there is a silver lining when teachers feel the environment change as students become excited and engaged in learning. I hope you will take the time to look over this road map and feel proud of the hard work accomplished by our students and staff in a very short period of time. …And yet we still have much more to accomplish. We know that the only real answer for school improvement is hard work by teachers each and every day. We have been implementing new ideas, practices and technologies into the classroom to provide support as we travel forward on this road to improving our teaching and learning practices. Achieve3000, Discovery Education and Schoology are becoming commonplace languages in our schools where just a short while ago many of us had not even heard of these support advantages. It takes time to learn and implement these new initiatives into our classrooms. There is a period of ‘trial and error’ that requires a great deal of patience, as often it may feel like we are taking two steps forward and one step back. However, let me assure you that we are moving in the direction to improved student achievement. It is exciting to see teachers and students embrace the changes with renewed energy and pride. Many critics ask why there are not faster results and continue to question our techniques and practices. I encourage our staff, students, parents and all stakeholders to ‘stay the course,’ stay focused on knowing that the foundation we are working to build for our students is leading them into becoming successful, not only today while they are in our schools, but tomorrow as they make critical decisions to move into career and college opportunities. What gets us there is our efforts to trudge forward one step at a time. If this is accomplished, then we will make school improvement. Our children depend on our attitudes, abilities, and mindset. We must be willing to do what we must do to continually be better than we were yesterday, so our students can be the best that they can be today and tomorrow. We are all traveling this road together. Let’s make it an extraordinary journey for our students. 2 • Jan/Feb 2016• Parent Teacher News
