Pinewood Elementary wins GCS robotics competition

Elementary School’s
robotics team, the
Weather Masters, took
overall top honors
in the third annual
Gaston County Schools
robotics competition
held March 1 at East
Gaston High School.
Gaston County
Schools in partnership
with CyberKids
Robotics hosted the
exhilarating contest
that featured teams
from all elementary
and middle schools.
“The Pinewood
family is extremely
proud of our Weather
Masters team and staff sponsors for being named the 2014
RoboGASTON champions,” stated principal Jacob Barr. “Our team’s
win is truly a testament of perseverance and teamwork.”
Judges graded each team in three categories: research
presentation, teamwork and robot runs. As part of the research
presentation, each team had to:
q Identify a community that could experience a natural disaster
q Identify a problem that happens when a natural disaster occurs
q Create an innovative solution that helps people prepare, stay
safe, or rebuild
q Share your problem and solution with others
“We’re so proud of the students on our RoboDogs team and their
hard work,” said Brookside Elementary principal Todd Dellinger. “The
students did well in all areas of the competition and I was especially
proud of their research.”
