Several weeks ago, Spectrum News had a nice story about the Webb Street School playground dedication. The school held a grand opening ceremony on November 7 for the accessible playground, which is designed especially for children with special needs. The playground is a great addition to the school, and the students love it. Board Cork news It’s tradition that a student from McAdenville Elementary gets the opportunity to “flip the switch” to turn on the lights in Christmas Town USA. This year, second grader Tyler Singleton was chosen for the honor. To be the person who turns on the McAdenville lights is pretty special, and Tyler did a great job of making the community glow for the holiday season! Photo Courtesy Steve Rankin As you know, we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Gaston County Schools. As part of our year-long celebration, we have put together an exhibit at the Gaston County Museum in Dallas that highlights athletics in Gaston County Schools. The exhibit is titled “Gaston County Schools: Our Sports History and More,” and it runs through March 9. The exhibit features pictures, trophies, jerseys, and other memorabilia that bring attention to some of our outstanding teams and student- athletes. By no means is the exhibit a comprehensive history (we’d need 10 times the space to celebrate every championship team and athlete), but rather it is a tribute to how awesome our high school and junior high/ middle school players, coaches, and teams have been over the past 50 years. 2 • January/February 2019 • Parent Teacher Magazine
