Students inducted into National Technical Honor Society Recognition honors students for excellence in Career and Technical Education
Gaston County Schools hosted the annual National Technical Honor Society induction ceremony on Thursday , November 17 at Stuart W . Cramer High School . The program honored approximately 300 high school students , who are enrolled in the Career and Technical Education ( CTE ) program , for their outstanding academic achievement .
Students lit eight candles that represented the attributes of knowledge , skill , honesty , service , responsibility , scholarship , citizenship , and leadership . Dr . Melissa Balknight , Associate Superintendent for Academic Services , welcomed the students , parents , and guests and congratulated the inductees .
“ Being inducted into the National Technical Honor Society is a significant honor for our high school students , and we are extremely proud of this year ’ s inductees ,” said Balknight .
A highlight was the candle lighting portion of the program . Students lit eight candles that represented the attributes of knowledge , skill , honesty , service , responsibility , scholarship , citizenship , and leadership .
For the past 30 years , the National Technical Honor Society has been the leader in recognizing student achievement in Career and Technical Education . Students who are inducted into the National Technical Honor Society
demonstrate academic excellence and exceptional leadership . They are career-driven and focused on being successful in the professional world .
A South Point High School student accepts her recognition for being inducted into the National Technical Honor Society . Gaston County students enrolled in Career and Technical Education courses have an opportunity to take classes in 16 career cluster areas . Students may study Business and Finance , Health Science , Marketing , Information Technology , Engineering , Manufacturing , Culinary Arts , Automotive Technology , Construction , and other career fields .
The students also have an opportunity to gain real-world experience and interact with business leaders and potential employers . Students with a Career and Technical Education background are prepared to pursue a college education and join the workforce after high school graduation .
To be eligible for induction into the National Technical Honor Society , a student must
• Complete four courses in a Career and Technical Education cluster area
• Maintain academic excellence in core and career / technical courses
• Maintain high attendance ; and
• Demonstrate leadership skills .
