Child Nutrition Services & Universal Free Breakfast
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Child Nutrition Services provides
high-quality meals for your child that are both nutritious and
appealing at a reasonable cost.
In June, the Board of Education approved universal free breakfast
for all CMS students beginning with the 2013-14 school year. All
students are allowed one free breakfast each school day during
breakfast serving times.
The award-winning department serves more than 29,000
breakfasts, nearly 80,000 lunches and 12,000 after-school snacks
each day.
CMS is currently accepting applications for free- and reducedprice lunch.
Families whose children have special nutrition needs, including
food allergies or diabetes, should fill out the diet order form.
Breakfast is offered daily in all schools before the start of the
school day at NO CHARGE to students. All students are allowed one
breakfast each school day during breakfast serving times.
A student breakfast consists of:
Milk - 8 oz.
Fruit - 1/2 cup
Fruit Juice - 4 oz.
Grain - 1 serving
2nd Grain or Meat/Meat Alternate - 1 serving
Students may select three, four or five items--one of which must
be at least 1/2 cup of fruit or 4 oz. of fruit juice. (Cannot take 2 fruit
juices)
