CCGMS Students Stand Against Violence On October 22nd, students at C.C. Griffin Middle School participated in SAVE – Students Against Violence Everywhere – a program that engages students in meaningful violence prevention efforts within their school and community. CCGMS SAVE Chapter President Jirah Sidberry and members Bobbie Williams and Melissa Chavez encouraged their peers to take a stand against violence. The CCGMS Step Team, Dance Team, and Excel Chorus also performed. Students released balloons to remember those affected by violence. Nearly all young people across the nation are affected by violence. Its impact has devastated schools and communities and has brainwashed some youth into believing that violence is right. Violence is a learned behavior, so it can be unlearned. The SAVE chapter at C.C. Griffin Middle School is actively involved in helping our school and community solve this problem. The CCGMS SAVE chapter’s goal is to empower, encourage, educate and engage others in preventing violence in our school and community. By focusing on crime prevention, conflict management and service to our school and community, the group will raise awareness of school and community violence. SAVE, whose slogan is Youth Voices...Grown-up Choices, was started by students from West Charlotte High School in 1989 after the tragic death of a classmate who was trying to break up a fight at an off-campus party.
