Cabarrus County Schools Snippets 9th Annual King of the Court a County Success Students from CCS high schools were teamed up to volley for a cure for breast cancer. The 9th Annual King of the Court event was Wednesday, October 5th at the Hickory Ridge High School gymnasium. Cox Mill High School seniors won the championship and finished as the only undefeated team. Jay M. Robinson High School juniors won the junior tournament and Mount Pleasant High School won the social media #KingsofPink challenge. The King of the Court tournament was originally a school event for Mount Pleasant High School beginning in 2008. Over the years, the event has grown in popularity and has been expanded to include other CCS high schools. Cabarrus Tech Has New Home The new school held its dedication ceremony on Sunday, September 25th. Board of Education members and other elected officials, as well as RCCC President Carol Spaulding and CCS Superintendent Chris Lowder attended the dedication ceremony. Cabarrus Early College of Technology is one of two Cabarrus County Schools Early Colleges and originally opened earlier this summer in August. The school is a STEM Early College with a focus on engineering and computer science.  Students’ course work and activities revolves around these themes.  While at Cabarrus Tech, students have the ability to earn the Associate in Science, the Associate in Arts, or the Applied Associate in Science degree.  Students can pursue their interest in Computer Integration Technology, Construction Management Technology, and Electronic Engineering Technology. Rocky River Elementary Student is Hometown Hero   Congratulations to Noah Prieto, kindergartner at Rocky River Elementary School, who has been named a Hometown Hero. On Friday, September 16th, Noah received VIP treatment and a hero’s welcome to celebrate his first day at school. To welcome him to his school, Hometown Heroes and the students and staff of Rocky River Elementary coordinated a very special event. He was driven to school in a motorcade – complete with road closures – of police escorts. He was welcomed with a student-led rally and celebration including Central Cabarrus High School’s pep band and cheerleaders. Hometown Heroes is an organization dedicated to helping kids like Noah have special experiences to make the best out of their difficult situations. Lemonade Wars at Royal Boger Fourth grade students at Royal Boger created business teams and operated their own lemonade stands on October 5th. The event was held in the courtyard and was busy with entrepreneur’s collecting money for charity. The fundraising goal of $500 was surpassed when the fourth graders raised a total of $1,146.36 from lemonade sales. All proceeds will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which brings awareness to childhood cancer.
