CCS Names Principal of the Year
Mike Jolley, principal of Northwest Cabarrus High School, was
selected as the 2016 Cabarrus County Schools Principal of the Year
in a program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public
Instruction and Wells Fargo.
Superintendent Chris Lowder and Assistant Superintendent
Glenda Jones surprised Jolley with the announcement during a NCHS
staff meeting on September 16th.
Jolley has been principal of NCHS since 2011. He previously
worked as an assistant principal and as a principal intern at Hickory
Ridge High School. Jolley’s connection to NCHS is long-standing. He
worked at the school as a student teacher, teacher and coach.
He earned a bachelor’s degree
from Appalachian State University
and a master’s degree from the
University of North Carolina at
Charlotte.
Jolley will now compete with
other principals across the state
for North Carolina Principal of the
Year. Other CCS principals have
been named Regional Principals of
the Year including last year’s CCS
Principal of the Year Adam
Auerbach.
After the state selection
process is completed, one principal
will be selected as the 2016 Wells
Fargo Principal of the Year. CCS principals vote amongst themselves
for principal of the year; finalists are selected from that list and a
selection panel comprised of former CCS principals of the year, as
well as other district administrators interviews finalists and selects a
winner.
Principals of the Year receive a cash award. The regional Wells
Fargo Principals of the Year receive a cash award for his or her school
and a cash award for personal use. The 2016 Wells Fargo Principal of
the Year will receive $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for his or
her personal use.
Regional award recipients will be selected by February 2016 and
the state-level winner will be announced in the spring at a special
luncheon in Raleigh.
