First Annual CCS Tournament of Mathletes The Cabarrus County Schools Gifted Education Department hosted the first Tournament of Mathletes on Saturday, April 1 at Patriots Elementary School. Throughout the year highly advanced math students participated in their school Math Olympiad Teams. This spring, the top five scorers from each school were selected to represent their school at the district Tournament of Mathletes. Students participated in the individual event, in which they were asked to solve 10 challenging problems in 30 minutes, completely on their own. All five students from each school worked together during the team event in which they had 20 minutes to solve 10 problems. Special thanks to Rack Room Shoes, Burger King, and Sea Life Aquarium for helping to arrange this awesome event for our students. And of course, a huge thank you to Shoes That Fit! Shoes That Fit help children in need in thousands of schools across America, including Rocky River Elementary. Over 1.4 million pairs of new shoes and other necessities have been raised and distributed and that number continues to grow. Most importantly, Shoes That Fit is helping kids improve their self-esteem and fit in at school by eliminating one of poverty’s most visible and debilitating marks.
