King of the Court Wraps Up
Another Successful Campaign
After some weather delays and some extra fund raising, CCS student
leaders from the Mount Pleasant High School AWSUM Club and the Jay M.
Robinson High School Student Council joined participants of King of the
Court and former Superintendent Barry Shepherd on March 16th to celebrate
another successful King of the Court campaign.
Students raised $18,000.00 through a number of events leading up to and
including the annual King of the Court volleyball tournament. The tournament
began as a community event in Mount Pleasant in 2008 and has grown to
include ALL Cabarrus High Schools, which rotate serving as the host school
every two years.
Kevin Laws, director of Planned Giving at Northeast Foundation was on
hand to accept $11,000 for the CMC-Northeast Breast Health Center, where
through the donation hundreds of our local community members may receive
better comfort and care.
The other $7,000 was donated to breast cancer charities, including: the
Vickie S. Honeycutt Foundation, the Wishing Well at CMC-Northeast to help
patients with prosthetics, and local families in need who are fighting breast
cancer.
Honorary guests included Lori Shaver Love who is valiantly fighting her
own battle, and Starr Landers, mother of King of the Court Advisor Michael
Landers and a 16-year survivor of breast cancer.
Look for CCS high schools to continue to do more for our community
this coming October, as Hickory Ridge High School hosts this wonderful
community event.
