Furr Hosts Drive for Animal Clinic
Carl A. Furr celebrated March Madness by helping out furry friends.
During the month of March, the 4th grade Falcon Action Service Team
(FAST) spearheaded a collection to benefit the Cabarrus Spay and
Neuter Clinic in Downtown Concord. Furr students and families pitched
in to bring in various items to help local animals at clinic.
The 4th graders collected paper towels, ziploc bags, garbage
bags and gently used towels and blankets to help cats and dogs with
surgeries. The FAST team, under the direction of team advisors Mrs.
Bravo-Boyd and Mrs. Covington, advertised the campaign, designed
posters and made commercials to bring awareness to help animals
and support the animal clinic.
The drive ran from March 4th through March 26th.
The FAST thanks everyone who participated and helped support
this special cause. Way to Go Furr Falcon students and families!
NCMS Students Visit Local Businesses to Learn
Students from
Northwest Cabarrus Middle
School participated in the
annual Students @Work
program offered by the
North Carolina Department
of Public Instruction and
the North Carolina Business
Committee for Education in
March.
The students, along
with their teacher Donna
Jones, visited PDQ
restaurant and PreGel America.
The visits allowed students to make connections between the
world of work and business concepts learned during their classroom
experiences. The students were truly engaged during their “classroom
without walls” experiences at both locations. They participated in tours
and food preparation activities, listened to presentations and got an upclose-and-personal look at the daily operations of two diverse entities.
This year’s Students@Work Week involved more than 150
businesses in all 100 North Carolina counties. Approximately 24,000
students participated statewide.
Fellows 2014 was record setting with more than twice the number
of applicants as available spots. The final selection for the cohort is
diverse with representatives from public, private, and charter schools
spanning up to a 100-mile radius of the center of Charlotte. Educators
from museums and afterschool/summer programs also are included in
the inaugural cohort.
