HRHS Students Named Regional Science
Olympiad Champs
Congratulations to the Hickory Ridge High
School Science Olympiad Team for its 1st place
finish at the regional championship in March.
With only eight members, the HRHS team stunned
the other teams, winning 18 individual medals.
The next smallest team had approximately 20
members.
CCS Observes Donate Life Month
Cabarrus County Schools
celebrated National Donate Life
Month (NDLM) in April. Americans
are encouraged to register as an
organ, eye and tissue donor and
to celebrate those who have saved
lives through the gift of donation.
An outgrowth of the celebratory
month is the Flags Across America initiative that began in
2009. It honors and celebrates the hundreds of thousands
of donors and recipients whose lives have been affected by
organ, eye and tissue donation. The initiative rallies every
donor hospital and transplant center to collectively fly the
Donate Life flag during the month of April.
Cabarrus County Schools proudly displayed a Donate
Life flag in front of the Education Center. This flag, along
with the thousands of others that were flown throughout
the United States, was a visible and unified statement
about the importance of donation and reflects the dire need
for donors.

Concord High Receives
IB Certification
Concord High School
is officially an IB World
School offering the Diploma
Programme.
The first cohort of Diploma
Programme students will begin in the fall
of 2014. These students will take seven IB
courses yearly and will earn an international
high school diploma. Students enrolled in the
Diploma Programme will complete more than
150 hours of community service and write a
thesis paper while in high school. Universities
reward students who complete the Diploma
Programme with higher acceptance rates than
students who complete traditional high school
programs.
Cabarrus County Schools offers IB programs
at the middle and high school levels with a
program at J.N.Fries Magnet School (which
received its IB certification in 2013) along with
the Concord High program. The school system
will expand its IB offering to include students
in elementary school beginning in August at
Weddington Hills Elementary School.
Congratulations to Concord High School!

MPMS Student Gets His Big Shot
Noah Page, a student at Mount Pleasant Middle School,
has become a media darling. Noah was recently featured on
WBTV’s Good News segment, as well as in an article in The
Charlotte Observer. Noah’s new-found notoriety is the result
of his passion for basketball and his performance on the
court during a school basketball game. Way to go, Noah!
