AT Allen Hosts Superhero Night
A . T . Allen Elementary School hosted a Superhero Reading Night on January 26th . The event was an opportunity for parents and students to come out and learn “ super powered ” reading strategies . Students were engaged and having fun while learning unique tools to assist them while reading . Parents were also able to see teachers model reading strategies for them to use when reading at home with their children .
MPES Teacher Assistant Named Regional TAOY
Congratulations to CCS Teacher Assistant of the Year , Crystal Hall , who was has been selected as the Teacher Assistant of the Year for District 6 !
Crystal will now compete with seven other district teacher assistants in the state competition sponsored by the North Carolina Association of Teacher Assistants ( NCATA ). Superintendent Chris Lowder and Assistant Superintendent Glenda Jones surprised Crystal with a school visit on January 17th to celebrate this accomplishment . The North Carolina Teacher Assistant of the Year will be named in late February and recognized at an awards banquet hosted by NCATA .
Spelling Champion Crowned

Lisa Zuo , an 8th grade student at Hickory Ridge Middle School , is the runner-up .
Pramati competed at The Charlotte Observer ’ s 63rd Regional Bee on February 27th . She placed in the top five . Congratulations , Pramati !
CCHS Student Nominated as US Presidential Scholar
Gavin Canipe , senior at Central Cabarrus High School , is among six North Carolina high school seniors nominated to the U . S . Presidential Scholars Program !
Pramati is an 8th grade student at Harris Road Middle School . She competed in the District Bee along with spelling bee winners from CCS elementary and middle schools on Jan . 11th and was the final contestant standing after 37 rounds . The word that won her the title was anaphylaxis .

The U . S . Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of our nation ’ s most distinguished graduating high school seniors .
Two students from each state are selected later in the year as presidential scholars . If Gavin is chosen as a presidential scholar , he will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington in June to be presented the U . S . Presidential Scholars medallion at a White House ceremony . During the trip , scholars will also have the opportunity to meet important national and international figures , including government officials , educators , authors , musicians and scientists . Congratulations , Gavin !
