A Message from Dr . Chris Lowder , Superintendent
Happy New Year and welcome to the second half of the 2016-2017 school year !
In this issue , we are celebrating many successes , including several grants awarded to schools to implement innovative programs and we are shining the spotlight on our students ’ giving spirit and community service . I am pleased to share with you that our district received the 2016 Benjamin B . Tregoe Award for Strategic Leadership in Education . TregoED gives the award to school districts that have achieved enduring results using the company ’ s tools for collaborative problem solving and decision making .
By using TregoED tools , our district has created a systematic , transparent budget process that includes soliciting input from district personnel at all levels , as well as County Commissioners , parents and community members . Our process , coupled with the TregoED tools , have yielded increased understanding and buy-in by diverse stakeholders about our districts ’ financial needs . We also use TregoED processes in other areas such as hiring decisions , choosing student programs , and technology planning .
In other news , I offer my congratulations to our returning Board of Education members – David Harrison , Barry Shoemaker and Rob Walter – who were re-elected on Nov . 8 th . Congratulations also and welcome back to Cindy Fertenbaugh , who has returned to the Board . I also want to say thank you to Board Member Jeff Phillips for his dedication and service on the Board over the past four years .
We are also sharing seasonal information as a reminder about school delays and cancellations . Please take a few minutes to review our inclement weather procedures included in this issue . Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of our students and staff , so as we are making decisions about delaying or cancelling school , we always err on the side of caution . You can also fin this information on our district website .
Let ’ s use our momentum to finish the school year strong . Sincerely , Chris
Chris Lowder , Ed . D . Superintendent
