Happy New Year and welcome to the second half of the 2015-2016 school year!
In this issue, we are celebrating many successes, including several grants awarded to schools to implement
innovative programs and we are shining the spotlight on our students’ giving spirit and community service.
We are also sharing seasonal information as a reminder about school delays and cancellations. Please take a few
minutes to review our inclement weather procedures included in this issue. Our primary goal is to ensure the safety of
our students and staff, so as we are making decisions about delaying or cancelling school, we always err on the side of
caution. You can also find this information on our district website.

Lowder Named Superintendent
The Cabarrus County Board of Education (BOE) voted on Dec. 7th to appoint Chris Lowder
superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools. Lowder was named interim superintendent in March.
After the vote, Lowder was sworn in as the 10th superintendent of Cabarrus County Schools.
The BOE indicated Lowder’s appointment as interim superintendent would continue through the end of the current school year.
However, the Board decided to modify its timeline.
“We are delighted to name Dr. Lowder superintendent. He is a homegrown talent, and certainly well-qualified for this opportunity,”
said Barry Shoemaker, Cabarrus County Board of Education chairperson. “Our board has been impressed and pleased with his leadership
over the past nine months and feel there is no one better to lead Cabarrus County Schools into the future.”
