Message from Superintendent Christopher M. Lowder Ed. D.
Parents, Teachers and Students,
As we prepare for the end of the school year, this is a time to reflect on all that we have
accomplished. A few examples include breaking ground on new school sites for Mount Pleasant
Middle School and Royal Oaks Elementary School, celebrating our Jay M. Robinson Bulldogs men’s
basketball team state championship and opening two new schools next year: Odell Elementary
School and Early College of Technology High School.
Before we close the books on the 2015-2016 school year, we still have important work to do. I
encourage you to stay focused for end-of-year testing. It has been a great year and I look forward to
an even greater one in 2016-2017! Have a safe and happy summer.

PSRES AIG Teacher Named Top in the State
Kris Harlan, AIG teacher at Pitts School Road Elementary School, was a finalist for the NCAGT
Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted Award! Kris was recognized on Friday, March 4, 2016, during an
awards luncheon at the State Gifted Conference. The NCAGT Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted Award
is presented annually to a North Carolina teacher of gifted children/youth who exhibits a strong
commitment to gifted education through professional experiences, professional organizations, and/or
services in the area of education for the gifted. Congratulations!
