Second Offense : A three ( 3 ) day in‐school suspension , second parent / guardian contact and the student must complete a tobacco education project with Brother Wielatz .
Third Offense : Suspension from school and extra‐curriculars until the Disciplinary Committee has considered the student ’ s future at Brother Rice .
Alcohol : Recognizing that the use or possession of alcohol is unlawful for individuals under the age of 21 , any use or possession of alcohol , on or off campus , will result in :
� Suspension from school until the student is enrolled in an alcohol abuse counseling program at the student ’ s cost and a parent / guardian meeting has taken place ;
� Two‐week minimum Disciplinary Probation beginning when the student is eligible to return to school ; � Required completion of the alcohol abuse counseling program � Possible expulsion
In the event a student receives a Minor in Possession ( MIP ), the student and family are expected to notify the school and the Dean of Student Formation prior to law enforcement reporting . If this is done , there will be no additional consequences beyond the aforementioned set forth by the school .
Marijuana : Any situation in which a student is caught using marijuana ( currently or in the past ), on or off campus , will result in :
� Suspension from school until the student is enrolled in a drug abuse counseling program at the student ’ s cost and a parent / guardian meeting has taken place ; � Retesting at the student ’ s expense until clean ; � Two‐week minimum Disciplinary Probation beginning when the student is eligible to return to school ( student will remain on Disciplinary Probation until clean , even if beyond the twoweeks ); � Required completion of the drug abuse counseling program � Possible expulsion
Prescription Drugs : Any situation in which the student tests positive through a 10‐panel test for prescription drugs will result in :
� Suspension from school until the student is enrolled in a drug abuse counseling program at the student ’ s cost and a parent / guardian meeting has taken place ; � Retesting at student ’ s expense until clean � Two‐week minimum Disciplinary Probation beginning when the student is eligible to return to school ( student will remain on Disciplinary Probation until clean , even if beyond the twoweeks ); � Required completion of the drug abuse counseling program � Possible expulsion
Proper use of a drug authorized by a medical prescription from a registered physician shall not be considered a violation of this rule so long as the parent / guardian and student follow the proper protocol outlined in the Student Health section . A student on such medication must provide the administration with written notification from the parent / guardian and a signed doctor ’ s note if the medication is to be brought onto , consumed , or utilized on campus or at any schoolsponsored activity .
Heavy Drugs : Any situation in which the student is caught using ( currently or in the past ) narcotics including , but not limited to , heroin , cocaine , LSD , barbiturates , amphetamines , etc ., on or off campus , will result in :
� Suspension from school until the student is enrolled in a drug abuse counseling program at the student ’ s cost and a parent / guardian meeting has taken place ;
� Retesting at student ’ s expense until clean

Performance Enhancing Drugs : As pursuant to law MCLA 380.1318 , students may not use any performance enhancing substance , including but not limited to any substance listed in by‐law 31.2.3 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , as well as any substance that may be listed as a banned substance by the Michigan Department of Community Health . The use of banned substances will subject the student to the same consequences that the school has established for Heavy Drugs . Distribution and / or Sale of Substances : Distribution , sale or intent to distribute or sell any alcohol , illegal or unauthorized medicines , drugs or narcotics including , but not limited to , marijuana , heroin , cocaine , LSD , barbiturates , amphetamines , Ritalin , inhalants and ecstasy on school property or at school‐sponsored events will result in law enforcement involvement and expulsion from the school .
In the event of off campus distribution , sale or intent to distribute or sell any substance mentioned above , the school will investigate and take appropriate action .
Drugs and Alcohol and International Travel : While the laws of other countries may differ from the laws of the United States , students are expected to lead a life with the values of a good Christian and their actions should always reflect the Brother Rice High School mission . Due to this , the substance abuse policy and consequences applies to Brother Rice High School students no matter what soil they stand on ; foreign or domestic .
G . HARASSMENT AND ANTI‐BULLYING POLICY
Brother Rice High School is committed to promoting a safe , healthy , caring , spiritual and respectful learning environment for all of its students . The school is committed to protecting its students from bullying and / or harassment . As such , bullying and / or harassment are strictly prohibited , will not be tolerated and shall be just cause for disciplinary action . Therefore , this anti‐bullying policy prohibits any unwelcome physical , social , electronic , nonverbal , verbal or written conduct directed at a student by another student that has the effect of : � physically , emotionally or mentally harming a student ; � damaging , exhorting or taking a student ’ s personal property ; � placing a student in reasonable fear of emotional or mental harm ; � placing a student in reasonable fear of damage to or loss of personal property ;
� creating an intimidating or hostile environment that substantially interferes with a student ’ s educational opportunities of the Catholic mission of the school ; or
� disrupting the orderly operation of the school .
Definitions The definitions hereunder apply to any student who either directly engages in an act of bullying and / or harassment or who , by their behavior , actions and / or conduct , supports another student ’ s act of bullying and / or harassment .
Bullying is unwanted , aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance . The behavior is repeated , or has the potential to be repeated , over time . Bullying results in physical hurt or psychological distress of an individual . Bullying is unwanted purposeful written , verbal , nonverbal or physical behavior and / or actions , including but not limited to , teasing , name‐calling , slurs , rumors , jokes , false
