Medication will only be dispensed by Brother Rice through the
Attendance Officer with written permission by the
parents/guardians and a signed doctor’s note. See the Student
Health section for information.

Lateness
Lateness affects not only the student who is late, but also has a
negative effect on learning environment the teachers are creating
and everyone within that environment.
Students are expected to be in the classroom and seated
when the bell rings otherwise are considered late. Students
who arrive to class after the bell must report to the Dean of
Student Formation for an Admit Slip where the legitimacy of
the lateness will be determined.
Lates are calculated in total on a semester basis. Students with
excessive lates will be subject to the following consequences:
3 Unexcused Lates: one (1) detention
5 Unexcused Lates: Saturday detention and
mandatory parent/guardian meeting
8 Unexcused Lates: one (1) in‐school suspension
10 Unexcused Lates: suspension from school and
extra‐curriculars until the Disciplinary Committee has
considered the student’s future at Brother Rice
Solid leather (no cloth or fabric on them)
“Sperrys” (and similar) may be worn and must
meet all of the above specifications. The upper
heel of the shoe may not be flattened down or
bent under the heel of the foot creating a slip‐
on or moccasin effect.

If a student missing more than 20 minutes of any class period
for any reason, it will be recorded as an absence by the Dean’s
Office. Reasoning and documentation will determine the type
of absence.

Perfect Attendance
A student is considered to have perfect attendance if:
The only missed school days ar e due to school approved
events
They have no Unexcused Lates
A conservative, properly knotted necktie or
bowtie is to be worn securely fastened under
the collar of the dress shirt.
A Brother Rice tie, which may be purchased in
the Bookstore, must be worn on certain days.

B. DRESS CODE AND GROOMING REQUIREMENTS
A properly fitting white or solid‐colored dress
shirt with a regular fold‐down collar must be
worn fully tucked in and buttoned from top to
bottom. If a shirt is worn under the uniform
shirt, it must be a solid white, short sleeved
crew or V‐neck and have no design or writing
of any kind.
Visitors on Campus
Students are not allowed to have visitors on campus without
prior approval from the Dean of Student Formation.
The dress code and grooming of students shall reflect modesty and good
taste and shall not be disruptive of the classroom atmosphere or
educational program of the school. Final judgment on any questions of
appearance and the interpretation of the dress code and grooming
requirements will be made by the Dean of Student Formation. At the
discretion of the Dean, a student who is in violation of these
requirements may not attend class and may be sent home or a
parent/guardian may be called to bring proper attire. No refund will be
given to any student who is asked to leave a Brother Rice function due to
violation of dress code and/or grooming.
Dress Code

Current student ID cards are to be clearly
visible and worn a lanyard around the neck.
Broken or lost ID cards must be replaced at the
student’s cost.

Conservative dress pants are to be worn at the
natural waistline. Torn or frayed pants are not
permitted. No chains, key holders, or other
decorations may be worn. The pant leg of the
pants must be hemmed so that the heel of the
shoe is visible. Rolling of the pant leg does not
constitute a hem.
Leather or suede dress shoes that cover the
heel of the foot must be worn with visible
socks. If the shoes are meant to be tied, they
must be tied properly. Flip‐flops, sandals,
moccasins, athletic shoes, canvas/fabric shoes,
shoes with patterns and/or large logos, and
shoes with large, wrap‐around white rubber
soles are not permitted. Shoes must be kept in
good condition at all times.

A dress belt or Warrior belt from the
Bookstore is to be worn inside the belt loops
of the pants. No large or extreme belt buckles
are allowed.
Earrings, necklaces, sunglasses or any
unnecessary and/or distracting accessories
may not be worn in school or at school related
activities.
No visible tattoos are permitted.
Sweaters, solid color fleece/micro‐knits, or
quarter zips purchased from the Bookstore
may be worn over a solid‐colored dress shirt.
The student’s dress shirt must be fully tucked
in, tie be exposed, and ID and lanyard adorned
atop of the sweater/fleece.
Sweatshirts, coats and jackets may not be
worn in the school building during regular
school hours.

Before October 1 st and after the Founder’s Day
Mass in May, students may wear the required
dress shirt without a tie or may wear a white
or solid‐color Polo‐style/golf shirt. As with the
regular dress shirt, the Polo‐style/golf shirt
must be fully tucked into a pair of dress pants
and the collar must be worn in the down
position. Dress code expectations from the
waist down remain the same.
Hats, hoods, caps, bandanas, etc. are not to be
worn in the building.
