In addition to the honoring of the Valedictorian and Salutatorian,
seniors are presented with various awards and medals at
graduation. Seniors graduating with a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or

designated as graduating with honors.
The following conditions must be met for eligibility of the above
honors:
a. A student must have completed a minimum of five (5)
consecutive semesters at Brother Rice.
b. A student must be a model of exemplary behavior with no
major disciplinary infractions.
c. Overall involvement in the school will be considered.
These honors may be rescinded at any time up to and
including after the graduation ceremony for any violation of
campus rules or the Student Code of Conduct.
Academic Board and Academic Probation
The Academic Board, composed of the Principal, the Vice
Principal, the Dean of Student Formation, the Director of
Guidance, the Athletic Director, the Band of Brothers Director
and the ESE, meets quarterly in order to evaluate students who
are struggling academically and make suggestions to support
students with poor academic grades. The Board may require any
student whose overall or current GPA is below a 2.00 to attend
mandatory study hall and/or study lunch during the school day.
Academic Probation signifies that the student's enrollment at and
graduation from Brother Rice may be in jeopardy. A student will
be placed on Academic Probation for the next quarter or
semester immediately following any quarter in which the student
receives below a 2.00 in weighted grade point average, has two
or more failures or is recommended by the Academic Board. A
support plan will be developed to promote the improvement of
grades. Students on Academic Probation may be ineligible for
participation in sports, extra‐curriculars and/or other student
activities.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences are held two times a year.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to monitor their son’s grades
on PowerSchool throughout the school year and may contact
teachers at any time.
Honors Courses
Students are encouraged to apply themselves academically
throughout the school year to earn placement into an honors

core academic area.
Advanced Placement (AP) Courses
The rigor of curriculum and instruction in an AP course is seen as
a predictor of college success. Many colleges and universities
require applicants to have a certain number of AP courses on
their transcripts as they apply for admission. Exams are scored on
a range of 1‐5. Each college or university decides on the awarding
of college credit based on their own criteria. Generally, a score of
3 or better is considered a passing score and may be awarded
college credit. Grades for AP courses are calculated with an
