Style guidelines if you’re over a size 14

The secret that no one tells you about fashion when you're over a size 14 is that you need the confidence to make the choices that flatter your body type and then own your style. Here are some guidelines that will assist you in making your fabulous fashion or style choices.

The Old Rule: You Should Never Wear White

The New Rule: The key to a flattering garment comes down to fit, not color. “White does not make you look larger if you find the right pieces, just as black will not make you look smaller if it doesn’t fit properly, it defeats its purpose. (The exception) “On camera, wearing white can make you appear bigger”. When shopping for white clothing, it’s always recommended that you have a pair of white well-fitted jeans and white ruched dresses in particular—avoid flimsy fabrics, that will highlight any lumps. Instead, pick materials with substance and structure; not only will they provide support, but that extra thickness will ensure your undies won’t play

play peekaboo whenever you’re in the sun. I recommend wearing spanks or full spandex gusset which are comfortable and smooths out all of your lumps. There are endless varieties and options that are both sexy and simple. Wearing this type of support allows your clothing to sit better on your frame and as a result appears more flattering.

The Old Rule: “Button-Down Shirts Are Unflattering”

The New Rule: “Button-down shirts compliment curves. “Look for one that has stretch, darts to place emphasis on the waistline and design details that create shape, ruching, and wrapping.” For an even more slenderizing silhouette, layer the shirt under a blazer, jacket, vest or cardigan—it will shrink the appearance of your midsection and elongate your body.
