Paranormal Life June 2014 | Page 4

So you have found a spooky abandoned building and got yourself one of those "ghost hunter" kits you've seen online - What next?

Think Safety First:

There is a common rule among paranomal investigators that you never go alone. Most think this is out of fear of being attacked by a ghost, but that's not the case. When entering abandoned buildings or homes, there are many risks. Floors could cave in, wild animals (including the slithering kind) could be present. Plus, there is always the chance an axe murderer might be camping out as well! You've seen horror movies, right? Either way, it's always good to have someone to go with you. If you do run into a ghost, you'll also have a witness to back up your story.

Know Your Equipment:

Know how long the battery life will last. Know what that wierd little button off to the side does and know how to set everything up. Nothing is more frustrating than losing precious time you could be investigating because a piece of equipment isn't working right. Also, any investigator knows to bring extra batteries.

The easiest way to prevent all the equipment mishaps is to play. Play with your equipment and do a test run. You can even conduct an investigation in your own home to test your equipment, but keep in mind, you may actually find something!

Educate Yourself:

Read! Read everything you can find on the

paranormal - not just ghost stories, but the scientific points of view, religious points of view, and other researchers' work. Understand the common theories behind what ghosts are. It will help you save money on equipment, come up with your own methods and ideas, and even better your approach to conducting investigations. Find out how to interact with people because you will come across all types: religious, athiest, agnostic, and yes, even Satanist. There is nothing like telling an atheist that a demon is in his house. Mostlikely, they'll show you the door. There are certain methods to approaching people and one of the best is to always be respectful.

Respect People and Boundries:

Always act professional and respectful towards anyone you deal with. Nothing will get you outcasted faster than being disrespectful and rude. Plus word of mouth might be the key to landing your next investigation.
