The Headless Earl
During the spring and summer of 1349 the
Plague swept through the city of York. The estimated loss of life was approximately 10,000 of
its 15,000 residents. All of the local grave yards
filled up quickly and a new cemetery was assigned. When that cemetery was full pits were
dug (known as Plague Pits) outside the city
walls. Not all families could be buried together.
A man from the local area was buried in the
grave yard. Not long after his death his wife and
child died of the plague. His wife was buried with
him but unfortunately, their child was not so privileged. She was buried in one of the burial pits
outside the city walls. Through her nursemaid,
the spirit of the mother brought the body of her
child to the grave yard to be buried with her parents.

In 1865 a local gentleman and his two child companions were attending a Sunday service at the
Church. As they sat in the gallery the man saw a
tall figure pass by the window. The startled man
looked again and saw that there were two other figures—a child and a smaller woman. There
had been several other reports of these same
figures, but the rector dismissed them off as being trees blowing in the wind. The trees were cut
down, but later, during a wedding service the
wandering spirits were seen again.

I was born in Leeds & brought up in York. I
became a Paranormal Investigator in 1994
when I joined New Horizons Exploration
Group. The founder Cyril Smith became my
great friend & mentor. We did many investigations the most famous being The Golden
Fleece Public House in York.During my time
in the group I explored Past Life Regression,
Crystal & Spiritual Healing & Channeling. The
group dissolved when the founder suddenly
passed away on 1 February 2008. I then took
a new direction into Paganism & Wicca.
