Witchcraft back then undoubtedly had its own
pioneers, but unlike today’s Internet the only
access back then was either books found
through libraries or special order and if you
were truly fortunate would you find yourself
within the company of an actual coven of
Witches either ancestral or otherwise created
by those seeking something other than the
ordained choices of organized religion.
Witchcraft did exist in numbers back in the
sixties and seventies which consisted of
people independent and reasonably self-reliant since the only means of communications
between groups were expensive long distant
calling, and by mail service both of which if
used had always required some form of coded messaging since the practice of Witchcraft
was not generally accepted by what had been
a GOD fearing public which had no problems
with making your life a living hell should they
ever identify you and your group mates.

Growing up Pagan during the sixties was a
rather unique experience. For back then such
practices as Witchcraft were only entertained
between the pages of a magazine which portrayed scantily clad vixens dressed up in the
traditional robe and conical hat. While supposed authentic Witches were always little old
ladies with oversized noses and hairy warts on
the end.
Back when I first became involved within what
was referred to as my “family coven” in the late
