PALM SPRINGS EATS: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow bar area. Both restaurants are known for the same warm and welcoming hospitality and a passion for traditional Mexican flavors and wholesome ingredients. And, this also being a long time playground for many famous and not-so-famous Italian-Americans from Frank Sinatra and Sylvester Stallone to The Dolly Sinatra Lodge 2400 Order Sons of Italy, you won’t have difficulty finding authentic Italian cuisine either. Al Dente Trattoria (491 N. Palm Cyn), combines homemade Tuscan cuisine with a decidedly European atmosphere. Family-owned and operated since 1984, Caffe Italia Spaghetteria (2500 N. Palm Cyn) prepares authentic recipes from Central Italy. Johnny Costa’s Ristorante (440 S. Palm Cyn) is another long-established place, and founder Johnny Costa has been a chef and restaurant owner in the Palm Springs area for over 37 years. He even cooked for Frank Sinatra at his estate, and Steak Sinatra is still on the menu. Nicolino’s Italian Restaurant and Lounge (440 E. El Cielo Rd.) offers Italian cuisine, including hand-tossed pizzas, pasta, seafood, veal, chicken, and gourmet sandwiches. Mario’s Italian Café (425 El Cielo Rd.) is one of a popular local chain of 8 restaurants known as a “Landmark for Pizza Lovers.” Bill’s Pizza (119 S. Indian Cyn) uses imported Italian pizza flour and extra virgin olive oil, custom made sausage, fresh roasted vegetables, and sheep’s milk feta cheese imported from France. He has 22 standard combos, but diners may make their own combos, and he keeps his prices reasonable by not advertising and not taking credit cards. Riccio’s Steak, Seafood & Pasta (495 N. Palm Canyon) is owned and operated by another long-time Palm Springs restaurant family. It has an extensive menu and has patio dining as well as a warm Tuscan interior. Maracas 39
