Tammy Patton, 56, a children’s minister and principal of the Christian Heritage Academy, has always had a soft heart for children. So it’s no surprise that, when members of her church decided to start a Christian school 16 years ago, they asked her to be a part of the kinder- garten to eighth-grade school. The school is open to all denominations, she said. Anyone can attend. “It’s a quality education that is faith-based,” said Patton, who has lived in Palestine for 31 years, after moving from Indiana. At its peak, the school had 126 students; this year, 98 pupils are en- rolled. Before becoming the principal of Heritage Academy, Patton was the church’s children’s minister. She still serves in that role. “I have a passion for children,” she said. She and her husband, Linney, have been married for 31 years. They have three children and six grandchildren.
