Train Smart Eat Clean Feel It’s amazing how things just start to fall into place when you become a genuinely nice person. 20 May 2015 eNewsletter Hi, guys! My name is Luke Hines. I’m really excited to get to know you better in the coming months as I contribute my passion for a healthy lifestyle here in Paleo Magazine. I’m going to share my thoughts and tips on living your best life and being the best version of yourself you can possibly be. Although in Australia I’m affectionately known as “Trainer Luke,” I’m not just a personal trainer. I live and breathe for cooking the cleanest and most phenomenal-tasting food on the planet, and I believe all the training and smart nutrition in the world cannot fix a poor headspace. Eating clean and exercising certainly does help us feel better, but getting our head straight is a major piece to the holistic health and wellness puzzle that sometimes requires special attention. To break it down, I live life by three simple mantras: Train Smart, Eat Clean and Feel Good. I believe if we can find synergy between these three elements in our world, then we’re on to a really good thing. When we find that synergy, I believe we can be truly happy. Training Smart means moving your body in a way that suits your interests, age and circumstances, because we’re all different on so many levels. So what works for me won’t necessarily work for you, but it doesn’t mean one is right or wrong. It just means we will do things differently, which is great, because the world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same, wouldn’t it? Eating Clean for me means fueling your body with the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet and avoiding those that can cause you harm. So wherever you call it—Paleo, primal, banting or ketogenic— as humans, we were designed to eat minimal processed foods, heaps of plants, and sustainable and ethically sourced forms of protein. Feeling Good is all about the headspace we choose to be in. So what I try to do, and suggest those around me try, is do your absolute best to look at the positive sides of life. This may mean writing a list each day of the things you’re grateful for, or even practicing some mindfulness. Whatever tactic works for you, it’s about putting the right type of energy into the universe so that you receive the same energy in return. It’s amazing how things just start to fall into place when you become a genuinely nice person. By finding synergy between these three elements, we find happiness. Wow, that easy, you say? Well, I’m not saying you’ll be happy 24/7, but I am saying that this is a formula that gives you the best chance possible to feel genuinely happy. And that takes me to my next point. I believe happiness and health go hand in hand. We cannot be truly happy if we’re unhealthy, and if we’re not happy, it can be hard to live a healthy life. What do I mean by happy? Well, first and foremost, true happiness is when we’re happy with who we are, inside and out. This can be easier said than done, but when we’re happy in our own skin, it really shines through, and we look healthy and vibrant. We don’t need to have the perfect body to glow from within. That glow is about being happy knowing we’re all different in our own unique and special ways, and we need to embrace that we have unique qualities inside and out that set us apart from those around us. Being happy doesn’t mean things are always going to be perfect. It doesn’t mean you have your dream partner, dream house and dream car. That isn’t happiness. Happiness is about rolling with the punches and taking life’s challenges in stride. If we can create a positive
