I Came, I Saw, I Conq
Veni Vidi Vici – I came, I saw,
I conquered. That’s been my
whole season. The final event in
Paris is over. The tents, equipment and memories are packed
away for the winter. I’ve seen
teams go from winning to dead
last in a heartbeat.
Paris was a unique event. The
first World Cup (Millennium Series) was more of a Nations Cup
as over 20 countries came together to play country versus
country. I have never been so
proud to be an American over
here as when Team USA took the
gold and the pride in the World
Cup. I stood there with Danette
Smith (Houston Heat owner)
and was proud as our National
Anthem was played. Well, the
guys may have not gotten all the
words right but their heart was
there. The look of pride in each
one’s eyes was a moment that no
words could ever describe. Only
photos and video can show the
true emotion of that event.
So with all that’s said and done,
one has to wonder how many
CPL slots will be open next season. Will Heat, Impact and Infamous return for round two? Or
will there be more pro teams
crossing the water to give the
Europeans a run for their money?
Too early to say, but it’s the hope
of the fans and players that more

and more ”foreign” teams come
to play here in Europe.
It was a sight to see teams from
as far away as Mexico and Iran
come and participate not only in
the Millennium World Cup but
in divisional play as well. While
talking with the teams coming in
from the event they love the challenges of the series and couldn’t
wait until next season.
The people of Northern Europe
have now dropped the netting,
stored the bunkers and will wait
until the last drop of snow melts
in the spring. They will sit hours
at a time watching YouTube videos and re-runs of the PSP webcasts just to fill their hunger for
paintball. Some though, escape
to warmer climates where they
will find, if just for a weekend,
that adrenalin rush that you get
with that first hit.
There are still a handful of smaller events left for the season here
in Europe. Many head for PSP
World Cup as a last hurrah for
the season. Let the silly season
begin!
