If you think about it, to make the 2500 balls available to the five
players in whatever ratios you deem critical is quite smart. However
this makes me wonder who actually came up with the idea, because
when I see the word ‘smart’ and ‘Steve Baldwin’ inhabiting the same
sentence, it kind of makes me suspicious. But it seems he’s proved
me wrong because in limiting the paint to 2500 per team per game,
this then for the first time, in my opinion, facilitates a more strategic
approach to playing these paint-limited-games. As soon as this is
understood, it opens up a whole slew of tactical possibilities that
weren’t available in the previous ‘race-to’ formats. However, it’s all
well and good coming up with these new formats, but there’s an
inherent risk involved and the last thing Steve and Laurent want to
do is to undermine their own Millennium series.
If it turns out to be an unmitigated disaster then an embarrassing
climb down will ensue and the subsequent search for a format
that does reduce costs but at the same time actually works as a
competitive format for the teams playing in it. To try and offset
Steve Baldwin and Laurent Hamet.
