The game itself was full of fun and excitement.
1,424 players shot over 4.3 million paintballs
over the course of the weekend, with an
average of 7,250 balls flying through the air
each minute. The weekend ended up being
a little chilly, with temperatures in the 30s
and 40s. Players were spared playing in the
rain, as the first drops began to fall during
the Awards Ceremony.
“The best part about Fulda Gap, aside from
the great ‘player comes first’ paintball, is
the camping and the family atmosphere. It
is what keeps us coming back every year,”
says Mamba. The friendly and welcoming
environment from the vendors, players and
staff sets the event apart. Valken went a step
beyond and provided food for hundreds
of players at their “Players Party” on Friday
night. The sense of community and giving
doesn’t stop there. The players in attendance
were able to raise over $5600 for the Make-A-
Wish foundation, making it one of the single
largest contributors to the charity in North

Carolina.
In a surprising turn of events, this year’s Fulda
Gap ended in a tie with a score of 2900 to
2900. Rather than mount a last minute tie-
breaker, both Generals agreed to let the
score stand and go home as equals. It was
an unusual, but fitting end to a weekend that
spent more time focusing on fun rather than
winners and losers. It also sets the stage for
next year’s game. Will the Soviets succeed
and eliminate Western influence and ideals
in Europe or will NATO emerge victorious
and keep Communism at bay? Find out as
the battle to end the stalemate continues
next November. This game should be at the
top of every paintball player’s bucket list!
