Edmonton Impact versus Houston Heat. And the battle
lived up to any hype surrounding the match. In the end
it was Houston Heat with the 6-4 win and their first truly
dominant wire to wire performance in the NXL this season.
It was Heat’s second straight major event win, taking first in
the Millennium Series Bitburg, Germany event.

New York Outlaws lost their first game of the event but went
on a tear after that. In their next six games they went 6-0
to win the Semipro division of the Nashville Open. Along
the way they beat some really good teams in Louisville
Asylum, Scottsdale Elevation (who were unbeaten until
the semifinals) and P.C. Katana in the finals.

While there is great parity amongst the professional ranks
in the NXL, the Semipro division appears to be spit down
the middle with half of the teams having a shot to win any
event and half having no shot. Of the 19 Semipro teams
entered in Nashville seven had one loss or less in the
preliminary rounds and seven had one win or less. Not a
lot of gray area here.

Down a level in Division Two, with 29 teams entered only
DZ All Stars and Indy Mutiny managed to win all four
preliminary round matches. As fate would have it both
teams were eliminated in the quarterfinals. Preferred Mob
barely made it out of the preliminary rounds but as we’ve
seen before a team can get hot at the right time and win
an event. And that’s exactly what they did, running through
