name just a few. And there’s a whole new
generation of mechanical ten-man teams
that have risen up in the last decade—
teams like Fox 4 Darkside, Louisville
Asylum, Washington Winstons and more.
The cross-generational play at the Iron
City Classic was truly a sight to see. Seeing
teams with 19 year olds and 45 year olds on
the field at the same time is also something
you don’t see often at national level events.
Urban Assault was once again host to the
Iron City Classic, although the landscape
has changed dramatically recently.
There’s apparently a major highway being
constructed through some of the Urban
Assault property, but other than a detour
and back way into the site, there were
no real inconveniences caused by the
construction. The mounds fields were
reconstructed and looked much more like

the original 90s fields this year than last
year’s grass and greenery covered mounds.
The Iron City Classic is an open division
event—there are no pro, amateur or
divisional brackets. Everyone plays in the
same division. Of the 54 teams playing only
the Saberwolves won/maxed all of their
eight preliminary round games. Farside
had seven max wins and one body count
win. There were five, one-loss teams: Philly
Americans, San Antonio X-Factor, Gridlock,
Image and ac: Empire. On the other side
there were only four teams that did not
have at least one max win. The majority of
the teams playing won between three and
five preliminary rounds games in this ultra-
competitive event.
