The finals saw another very close match with the Toulouse TonTons holding off London winners Edmonton Impact for the 5-4 win and a first place finish at the Millennium Series World Championships. Expendables Feilding is easily the best pro team playing in the CPL, but not for long as they will be promoted to the pro CPL division in 2018. The Expendables win each of the first three SPL events in 2017 and were once again the clear favorites to win the World Championships. And as expected the boys from New Zealand ran though the preliminary rounds, although they did face a couple of tough opponents. In the ocho rounds they went on to beat GI London Retribution. But for the first time all season the Expendables lost a Sunday game. RMG Symphony Bratislava did what no team could do all season—send Expendables Feilding home without a first place trophy. And RMG Symphony Bratislava would make it all the way to the finals where they would meet Germany’s Cologne Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have been one of the most consistent teams in the SPL this season, with two final-round showings and a 6th place finish in their three events. In another one- point game the Cologne Hurricanes bested RMG Symphony Bratislava in the finals to take first place, 3-2. Division One has seen some very strange finishes this season. One example would be Consilium Dei Zurich taking first place in Bitburg while in their other 2017 events they have not finished higher than 19th place. Add to that almost every top SPL team has one or more poor showings. www.paintball.media 047
