Not only is it who I am, and what I do, but knowledge is power, and we may be able to prevent a tragic outcome with the proper response. Dawn Mooney Digrius What is (or was) your winning title? My title is Ms. California America 2019. I am competing in the Ms. America Pageant 2019. Describe your platform: My platform is "Blue Hope Nation" which serves as an advocacy and support group for individuals and their families battling colorectal cancer and promotes awareness efforts and early detection.. What makes you so passionate about it? My father was diagnosed with Stage 0 colorectal cancer almost 10 years ago and because of early detection and treatment (chemo therapy) he is now cancer free. However, the treatment did take its toll on him; his teeth were affected and he lost so much weight at his lightest he weighed 118lbs. He is now up to 142lbs and while not the same, is still alive and with us today to share in our lives. We are grateful for early detection and awareness of colorectal cancer. 6 Pageant Platform Magazine Nov/Dec 2018 Christie Borelli-Gromaski What is (or was) your winning title? I have just recently been crowned as the National Ambassador American Woman Of Service 2018. This is a national pageant called the American Woman Of Service, which is associated with the USA National Miss pageant system. Describe your platform: I have a dual platform. The first is with the American Federation for Suicide Prevention & the second is with the National Alliance for Mental Illness. Each of these agencies advocate for those who are suffering in silence, afraid to ask for the help & support they desperately need. In recent years, I have participated in various events & walks, which have brought repeated community awareness & aid. What makes you so passionate about it? My dual platform is a personal one. I am a 2-time survivor of suicide; I also, was undiagnosed until the age of 35 with a form of bi-polar, acute anxiety & chronic depression. Through my spiral down to my complete mental breakdown, which had been triggered when I lost my beloved father to pancreatic cancer, to the moment I was blessed with not only this year’s National Ambassadorship but also the winner of my personal platform presentation, my life has truly captured the real struggle of so many like me.
