My Tip is to choose something that you are
passionate about. It may take time and it may
not come to you right away and that’s okay.
Sometimes we must change our platform and
that’s okay too.
: Competing in pageants has increased my
self-confidence tremendously. It’s really taking me
out of my comfort zone. It’s helped me increase
my abilities to speak in public as well as my
interviewing skills. I was a very shy person until I
started pageants. I didn’t even have a Facebook
profile. I think it’s really gotten me out of my
comfort zone and made me realize that I was
limiting myself. Competing helps people build up
their self-esteem to realize that not everybody can
be the winner. Everybody competes is a winner
if they learn from the experience but only one
person walks away with the Crown.
at my first pageant I was having shoe issues,
my shoes fit great when I left South Carolina but
when I got to California and rehearsing my shoes
were slipping off. We fixed it with butt glue. I had
no idea that there was something called butt glue
and just for people who don’t know what it is, it’s
used in swimsuit competition to keep your
bathing suit from riding up your backside. I had
no clue what that was when she handed it to me,
I almost fell over with laughter. And that’s a great
tip because I would have never thought to use it
for your shoes slipping and it’s good to know that
it can be used for that.
: First, find a platform or charity that you’re
passionate about that is key because you’re
going to be working with these organizations
and supporting them. You want to make sure
that you really have a passion for what you’re
doing.
Second, believe in yourself and go after your
dreams. At age 47 I competed in my first pageant:
I went after my dreams because it was on my
bucket list. And Lastly, it’s about your comfort zone
and try new things and you never know what
you’re going to be passionate about unless you
step out of your comfort zone. Competing is the
first step in that process, to get you out of your
comfort zone.
Be yourself, have fun and give it your all when
you compete, whether you win or lose, it doesn’t
matter. You’re a winner for even going out there
and competing.
