Begin Again Eggheads

For this you will need eggs, markers or crayons, a nail, seeds, dirt or potting soil, and plastic wrap. An egg carton will come in handy to put the eggs into when you complete this project.

Have your children color their eggs. They can draw faces, designs, whatever their hearts desire.

Take the nail and carefully make a hole in the top of the colored eggs. Work on the hole until it’s about the size of a quarter. Drain the eggs into a bowl so you can use them for something else, but make sure there is no shell if you are going to eat them. Scrambled egg sandwiches are a good snack to think about. Do NOT use the eggs if you used toxic markers.

Carefully rinse out the inside of the eggs. Then, fill them with dirt or potting soil.

Plant your seeds into the soil. Moisten your soil. Then, wrap the eggs in plastic wrap. Place your eggs in a sunny spot to sprout. When the seeds start to sprout, remove the plastic wrap and water them daily.

This is a good craft to use to explain the circle of death and rebirth to your children. The egg is no longer an egg. It has went through a death and has now been reborn into another living part of Nature.

Homemade Bird Feeders

One of my personal favorite crafts to do with my children is making homemade bird feeders. You’re giving back to the environment, and the birds will be thankful for the help since it will soon be harder for them to find food.

All you need to make these is birdseed, peanut butter, egg cartons, pipe cleaners, and a pair of scissors.

Cut your egg cartons into square sections so that you have what would’ve been four egg holders.

Poke a small hole through the center of the egg cartons. Put both sides of a pipe cleaner through the top of it. Knot the pipe cleaner together on the bottom side of the egg carton. This will create a handle to use to hang your feeders over tree branches.

Smear peanut butter on the insides of all of the egg holder cups. Fill up the peanut butter covered egg holders with bird seed, pushing down lightly to push the seed into the peanut butter. Fill to the tops.

Take your children outside and let them hang their feeders.
