Mabon is a time of giving thanks for the blessings you have received over the year and preparing for blessings yet to come. Mabon is also a time to celebrate. Rituals and feasting are always a part of Mabon celebrations, but there are also lots of fun and simple arts and crafts that you can do for Mabon. They can help prepare you for the year to come or give back to the universe.

Here are some easy, fun, crafts to do - some for your little witches and some for yourself.

Akasha from The Celtic Connection, has quite a few crafts to do for Mabon on the Internet. Here are two of my favorites for children to do with parental supervision.

Edible Autumn Leaves

Edible Autumn Leaves are fun to make and even more fun to eat. You’ll need chocolate chips or candy making chocolate. Use as many different colors as you like that will work with the seasonal colors. I personally love the cinnamon chips, but my daughters like the butterscotch ones. You will need large leaves from your herb garden, stores, or else where. Mint and basil work well.

You will also need:

A small, clean paintbrush for each child and adult.

Wax paper covered cookie sheets for hardening the chocolate.

And something to melt the chocolate on the stove. I use a double boiler for melting chocolate, but a sauce pan will work on low heat, also.

Wash your leaves well and pat them dry.

Melt your chocolate over low heat, stirring until smooth. If you use chocolate chips instead of candy making chocolate, melt 2 teaspoons of butter down into the chips and mix well.

When the chocolate is completely smooth, transfer it into small bowls.

Let your children pick which leaves they would like. Flip the leaves so that the undersides are up and paint with the chocolate. Set the painted leaves onto your wax paper covered cookie sheets. When all of the leaves are painted, set the cookie sheets in your refrigerator until the chocolate is firm.

When the leaves are firm, slowly pull the leaves off of the chocolate. This is a great time to talk with your children about how art is a reflection of the true beauty of nature.

If you’re using herbs, you can rewash the leaves to use for other things. You can also eat the leaves covered in chocolate if the leaves are edible ones. Beware not to use poisonous leaves or leaves from any plant of which you or your child are allergic.
