FAQ What if I need to cancel my wedding? If you need to cancel your wedding for any reason, please contact us immediately on 0345 241 2489. A cancellation fee will apply. Can we bring food and drink? Please note that food, drink and chewing gum are not permitted. I am very nervous, what if I forget the words I have to say? Don’t worry. You repeat the words after the Registrar and you do not need to learn them. Can people take photographs of, or record, the wedding? Your guests are more than welcome to take photos at the ceremony but please discuss this with the Registrar first. Video recordings www.squibphotography.co.uk www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/registration are allowed but please let the Registrar know this before the ceremony so the person can be directed to the most appropriate position. Can guests throw confetti? Some wedding venues have restrictions on confetti, so please discuss this with the Registrar conducting your ceremony and the staff at the venue. Why can’t there be any religious content? Civil weddings were created for those who cannot, or did not wish to marry in the Church. The law of this country states that ‘Civil Marriage ceremonies must not be religious in nature, nor should they include extracts from an authorised religious marriage ceremony. Is a ceremony conducted by an independent celebrant legal? No. Please see page 39 for further information. 7
