oly Smith ir it of Kinder lives on A uthor and broadcaster Stuart Maconie, newly- elected president of the Ramblers, claimed the right to walk freely over mountain and moorland was the birthright of every citizen of Britain, at the 85th anniversary Spirit of Kinder event organised by Guild vice-president Roly Smith, at Edale in April. Other speakers at the packed event included Vanessa Griffiths, new chief executive of the Ramblers; Dame Helen Ghosh, director general of the National Trust, and Stephen Trotter, Director of the Wildlife Trusts of England. As usual, the event ended with a stirring rendition of The Manchester Rambler, led by Sheffield folk singer Sally Goldsmith.
