He has both performed and recorded the Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo and Krzysztof Meyer’s Concerto for Guitar with the Amadeus Chamber Orchestra and the Polish Radio Symphony, and has performed Astor Piazzolla’s Double Concerto with accordion player Maciej Frackiewicz. Kuropaczewski regularly performs at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, Caramoor Festival and the Schleswig- Holstein Music Festival, and he debuted at the Casals Festival this year. An avid chamber musician, he frequently collaborates with mandolin player Avi Avital, soprano Chen Reiss and cellist Marco Frezzato. In 2017, he performs solo recitals in Spain, Denmark, Italy, Germany and the U.S. He appears with the Symphony Orchestra of Puerto Rico under the baton of Maximiano Valdés, the Bualystok Philharmonic, Sinfonia Iuventus and Szczecin Philharmonic. In connection with his performances with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Kuropaczewski takes part in a three-day residency at the Peabody Conservatory, made possible by the Levi Family Visiting Artists Fund and Tonar Music, a Baltimore record label, which releases his CD, Lukasz, with music by Tansman, José and Lutosławski. Kuropaczewski’s commitment to new music has led him to premiere works by composers such as Marc Neikrug, Krzysztof Meyer, Aleksander Nowak, Angelo Gilardiono, Mikolaj Gorecki and Krzysztof Penderecki. Many of these works were written specifically for him. Kuropaczewski is on the faculty of the Academy of Music in Poznan, Poland, and is Artist Director of the Polish Guitar Academy Festival. In 2017, he was decorated with the Meritorius for Polish Culture medal in recognition of his distinguished cultural contribution, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. About the Artists Marin Alsop For Marin Alsop’s bio, please see pg. 10. Łukasz Kuropaczewski Born in the small Polish town of Gniezno, Łukasz Kuropaczewski began studying guitar at the age of ten. At 13, he began studying with Piotr Zaleski, eventually receiving a master’s degree from the Academy of Music in Wrocław, Poland. He did his advanced studies with Maestro Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, where he completed the prestigious Artist Diploma in 2008. There, he received the Solomon H. Snyder Award, which led to his New York debut at Carnegie Hall. Since then, Kuropaczewski has performed concerts around the world, with appearances in London’s Royal Festival Hall, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Warsaw’s National Philharmonic Hall and Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow. In 2016, he premiered Krzysztof Penderecki’s Guitar Concerto with Sinfonia Varsovia and conductor Maximiano Valdés, who invited him to perform it with the Orchestra of the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Łukasz Kuropaczewski makes his BSO debut.
