As we look ahead to the holidays and the New Year, our season will continue to be filled with concerts by our great orchestra and exceptional artists throughout this year that celebrates creativity in all its forms. As the BSO’s second century begins, our confidence in the future is strengthened by the knowledge that our distinguished orchestra has continued to serve the community during both prosperous and challenging times. Thanks to the steadfast commitment of visionary leaders, we have sustained the quality and scope of our concerts and educational programs. Featured on the cover of Overture is our OrchKids program, which celebrates its 10 th anniversary this season. OrchKids has brought the joy of music to children across our community, providing countless opportunities for growth and learning along the way. Marin Alsop’s pioneering leadership has shown that music has the power to change lives. This season marks the 35 th anniversary of the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. Since its opening in 1982, the Meyerhoff has made extraordinary contributions to our vibrant community. We are privileged to perform in two world-class concert halls and maintain a permanent presence in both the Meyerhoff and The Music Center at Strathmore. The BSO is the only major American orchestra performing year-round in two major metropolitan markets. With your attendance and support, the BSO is the largest cultural organization in Maryland, reaching more than 350,000 people each year. Music Director Marin Alsop, BSO musicians and the guest artists who perform with the orchestra enrich our lives through exceptional artistry. Our programs include not only concerts, but also educational opportunities serving thousands of young people from our diverse community. Despite significant accomplishments, important work continues to build our family of audience members and donors. We are building on past achievements by developing a new multi-year strategic and financial plan, and I look forward to sharing more about this work in the months ahead. It is your participation and support that enables our community to be home to this renowned orchestra. Thank you for considering the BSO as you reflect on your philanthropic priorities and year-end planning. On behalf of our Board of Directors, musicians and staff, we appreciate you joining us for this performance.
